The North Carolina Science Festival is bringing Alton Brown, host of the Food Network’s “Good Eats,” to the Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC) on Thursday, April 18.

“An Evening with Alton Brown: The Science of Cooking” will feature Brown’s unique brand of kitchen science with comedy, culture and cooking. A question-and-answer session with audience members will follow Brown’s performance.

As part of the 2013 Festival, Brown will also appear at Charlotte’s Knight Theater on Saturday, April 20.

Brown’s emphasis on kitchen science in “Good Eats” is a good match for the North Carolina Science Festival, according to Festival director Jonathan Frederick.

“Alton Brown could be the poster boy for the Festival theme, which is ‘Life is your lab,’” explains Frederick. “Whether he’s inventing his own kitchen gear or showing you how changes in temperature affect food on a molecular level, Alton Brown is making that connection between science and everyday life.”

Brown demonstrated kitchen science on “Good Eats” for 15 seasons with the Food Network. He also appeared on “Iron Chef America” and hosted “The Next Iron Chef” for four seasons. He received both a Peabody Award and a James Beard Award for his work in television.

Both general and premium tickets for “An Evening with Alton Brown: The Science of Cooking” are available through DPAC. For a complete “Good Eats” fan experience, premium tickets include a meet-and-greet reception with Alton Brown following the show, reserved stage-front seating and a North Carolina Science Festival t-shirt.
