History & Ecology, Linked on Hatteras Island

11 am Friday, April 13 Hatteras

David Kelmer, well-known local arborist, explains the relationship between Hatteras Island’s history and ecology.

Today, roughly 2% of the plant life that once flourished here remains. What happened as forests were cleared for the keels of European sailing ships? How did horses swimming ashore from sinking ships and the arrival of other livestock affect the island’s ecology? Mr. Kelmer answers these questions and more in his informative and fascinating presentation.
