College is back in session.</p>
<p>We’re happy for the students getting back to their routine of late nights and mass pizza consumption. We’re even more excited for all the science events coming up on North Carolina college campuses. Colleges and universities across the state have put together some incredible events for the NC Science Festival.</p>
<p>East Carolina University will host the <a href="http://www.ncsciencefestival.org/events/eastern-region-nc-science-festival/?dayList=2010-09-24" target="blank"> Eastern Region NC Science Festival</a> Sept. 24! Meet scientists and discuss their scientists. Or discover science happening in the mountains at <a href="http://www.ncsciencefestival.org/events/nc-science-festival-celebrating-science-in-the-mountains/?dayList=2010-09-25" target="blank">Western Carolina University</a>!</p>
<p>Families can participate in hands-on science and math activities at <a href="http://www.ncsciencefestival.org/events/science-and-math-family-fun-day/?dayList=2010-09-25" target="blank">UNC Pembroke</a> Sept. 25!</p>
<p>Folks in Smithfield can head to Johnston Community College Sept. 18 for <a href="http://www.ncsciencefestival.org/events/fun-science/?dayList=2010-09-18"target=blank>Fun Science</a>. Learn about kitchen chemistry, the human body and more! </p>
<p>Appalachian State University is holding a variety of events throughout the Festival &#8211; from stargazing at the <a href="http://www.ncsciencefestival.org/events/stargazing-at-asus-dark-sky-observatory-2/?dayList=2010-09-25" target="blank">Dark Sky Observatory</a> to a <a href="http://www.ncsciencefestival.org/events/asu-physics-demo-show/?dayList=2010-09-20" target="blank">Physics Demo Show</a> to a talk about climate change with <a href="http://www.ncsciencefestival.org/events/talk-by-david-easterling-observed-and-projected-climate-change/?dayList=2010-09-22" target="blank">Dave Easterling of the National Climatic Data Center</a>.</p>
<p>Schools in eastern North Carolina can sign up for a classroom workshop with Beaufort Community College. Your students can learn all about biotechnology with <a href="http://www.ncsciencefestival.org/events/the-guilty-strawberry/?"target=blank>&#8220;The Guilty Strawberry.&#8221;</a></p>
<p>UNC-Chapel Hill will host the <a href="http://www.ncsciencefestival.org/events/unc-science-expo-day/?dayList=2010-09-25" target="blank">UNC Science Expo</a> Sept. 25 and several other talks and events throughout the Festival. And just down the road, Duke University is holding a seminar with <a href="http://www.ncsciencefestival.org/events/seminar-with-ira-flatow-of-nprs-science-friday/?dayList=2010-09-20" target="blank">Ira Flatow of NPR&#8217;s &#8220;Science Friday&#8221; program</a> and a <a href="http://www.ncsciencefestival.org/events/envisioning-the-invisible-mahato-memorial-event/?" target="blank">scientific visualization contest</a>.</p>
<p>Whether you&#8217;re a Blue Devil, Mountaineer or Tar Heel at heart, let&#8217;s all stop to appreciate the incredible science research happening at North Carolina universities. We can&#8217;t wait to visit all of these campuses for exciting science events!</p>

But the Festival isn&#8217;t just for classrooms in schoolhouses! Many activities on the Festival schedule are specifically for families who homeschool their children.</p>
<p>Discover how to navigate the outdoors with a class on orienteering at the <a href="”http://www.ncsciencefestival.org/events/home-school-series-orienteering/?”target=blank">McDowell Nature Center</a> in Charlotte. Or learn basic survival skills at <a href="http://www.ncsciencefestival.org/events/outdoor-survival-skills/?" target="blank">Lake Crabtree County Park</a> in Morrisville.</p>
<p>Older students might enjoy discussing a science topic with an expert scientist. Morehead Planetarium and Science Center is hosting a series of lunchtime panel discussions throughout the Festival schedule. Learn about <a href="http://www.ncsciencefestival.org/events/meet-a-scientist-brown-bag-lunch-learn-4/?dayList=2010-09-14" target="blank">Predicting Severe Weather</a>, <a href="http://www.ncsciencefestival.org/events/the-truth-behind-2012-panel-discussion/?dayList=2010-09-23" target="blank">The Truth Behind 2012</a>, <a href="http://www.ncsciencefestival.org/events/meet-a-scientist-brown-bag-lunch-learn/?dayList=2010-09-15" target="blank">Why Antimatter Matters</a> and more!</p>
<p>Jump into history and science at <a href="http://www.ncsciencefestival.org/events/ace-ed-ventures-2/" target="blank">ACE Ed-Venture</a><a href="http://www.ncsciencefestival.org/events/ace-ed-ventures-2/" target="blank">s</a> in Fuquay-Varina Sept. 15! Children in grades 3–8 can explore a different way of life on the History Trail.</p>
<p>These are some of the events designed specifically for homeschool families, but there are many daytime activities across the state that would be engaging for students! We want everyone involved in the NC Science Festival!</p>
