Open since 1949, Morehead Planetarium and Science Center is a constituent unit of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. With generous assistance from GlaxoSmithKline, Morehead installed state-of-the-art fulldome digital video in 2010, making it the largest planetarium in the South with this exciting technology.

In addition to its offerings in Chapel Hill, Morehead delivers high-quality science outreach programming, including enrichment programs, mobile lab visits, mobile planetarium shows and science on stage presentations across North Carolina. While their primary focus is the state of North Carolina, Morehead’s quality programs are recognized nationally and internationally. Morehead-produced fulldome planetarium shows can now be seen on more than three continents. Morehead staff have been asked to present at international conferences as far away as China and Jordan.

Morehead’s mission is to inspire and inform the public about the foundations and frontiers of scientific discovery.
