IMPACTS: Inspiring Meaningful Programs and Communication through Science

Thank you for your interest in the IMPACTS Program! This prestigious and highly competitive program provides scientists and STEM professionals with high-quality science communication workshops and real-world application of their newly acquired skills.

Meet the IMPACTS scientists! 

 

We are now recruiting new members! The application deadline is June 1 at 11:59pm. 

Triangle- The first workshop will take place August 11.  Apply here. 

Pembroke- The first workshop will take place July 14. Apply here. 

Northeastern- The first workshop will be August 4.  Apply here.

2018 will be an exciting year for our Impactors! We are participating in a number of events that span across North Carolina! Below are a few events featuring our scientists:

Triangle Area

  • March/April - Impactors will be participating in SciMatch. In this program, Impactors are paired with a middle school science teacher, that has applied for the program, and the scientists shares their passion for STEM and conducts hands-on activities with that teacher’s 3 to 4 classes that day. 
  • April 14 – Impactors will lead concurrent sessions during a conference-style event for middle school students called, STEMville Symposium.
  • April 28 -  Impactors will be exhibiting during the Triangle SciTech Expo at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences.

Triad Area

  • November 10 - Symposium opportunity at Winston Salem State University. Successful event where over 100 middle schoolers interacted with scientist during this conference-style event. 
  • March/April - Impactors will be participating in SciMatch. In this program, Impactors are paired with a middle school science teacher, that has applied for the program, and the scientists shares their passion for STEM and conducts hands-on activities with that teacher’s 3 to 4 classes that day. 
  • March 23 - Triad Impactors will lead concurrent sessions at UNC Pembroke's field trip opportunity for middle schoolers, called the STEMville Symposium! 
  • April 12 - The Joint School of Nanotechnology and Nanoengineering will host Gateway to Science! 
  • April 21 - the University of North Carolina at Greensboro will host UNCG’s NC Science Festival "Science Everywhere" community event on their campus.

Eastern Region

  • March/April - Impactors will be participating in SciMatch. In this program, Impactors are paired with a middle school science teacher, that has applied for the program, and the scientists shares their passion for STEM and conducts hands-on activities with that teacher’s 3 to 4 classes that day. 
  • May 19 - Impactors will participate in the NC Potato Festival in Elizabeth City.

Pembroke

  • March 23 - UNC Pembroke will host a field trip opportunity for middle schoolers that will be conference-style event!
